Mit ein wenig Verspätung soll an dieser Stelle neben dem "Tales"-Jubiläum auch das runde Jubiläum von "90125" gewürdigt werden.

Hier zunächst ein aktueller, kleiner, aber feiner Artikel von inthestudio.net:

YES - 90125 (30th Anniversary)

After experiencing YES performing in the round on a revolving stage in Fall 1978 in Memphis, I distinctly recall thinking that this was the best way to see any band larger than a quartet which consisted of musicians with exceptional “chops” like YES co-founding singer/ bass player Chris Squire, guitarist Steve Howe, drummer Alan White, keyboard player Rick Wakeman, and YES co-founding singer nonpareil Jon Anderson. Yet a scant three years later, amidst the churn of a wholesale turnover in rock’s most popular bands, YES was gone, one of the several iconic Seventies progressive rock sacred cows ingloriously slaughtered and sacrificed upon punk rock’s burning altar.

The talented rhythm section of Squire and White kept in touch into 1982, when they came tantalizingly close to forming a supergroup with another legend “on the beach” at the same time, Jimmy Page of the defunct Led Zeppelin. Page would bow out after two months of rehearsal, but Squire and White kept the name Cinema, as well as the desire to find a suitable songwriter/guitarist/ singer. Management suggested a young handsome South African, Trevor Rabin, who came from a serious classical music family and who had wood-shedded a number of strong songs in search of a suitable band. As Cinema, by midpoint 1983 their recordings were near enough completion that Chris Squire was eager to play what he believed to be their new album to his former musical partner since art school, Jon Anderson.

Then something remarkable happened. It resulted in more than eight million copies selling from a musical entity thought to be extinct, but with the songs “It Can Happen”,”Hold On”,”Leave It”,”Changes”, and the #1 hit “Owner of a Lonely Heart”, YES could rise like a musical phoenix from the ashes of the progressive rock Seventies thirty years ago with the comeback album of the Eighties in 90125 ( not a Beverly Hills zip code, but simply the album catalog number ).

Vom 40th Anniversary von Tfto zum 30th Anniversary von 90125.
Da wird einem erst mal bewusst wie sich die Zeiten in nur 10 Jahren veränderten.
Langfristig haben sich YES jedoch an ihre Progwurzeln orientiert.
Eigentlich haben sie nie richtig versucht den Sound von 90125 selbst zu kopieren.
Auch Trevor Horn gelang das mit Fly from here nicht.

Und hier noch eines der eher seltenen Band-Fotos mit Eddie Jobson als Kurzzeit-Yes-Mitglied. Chris trägt dabei ein Shirt mit dem Bandnamen auf französisch!

Das ist auch schon wieder 30 Jahre her!
Vor ziemlich genau 30 Jahren (21. Januar 1984) stieg "Owner Of A Lonely Heart" auf Platz 1 der US-Single-Charts und ist bis heute Yes' einziger Nummer-1-Hit geblieben. Man verdrängte damals übrigens Paul McCartney und Michael Jackson und ihr Duett "Say Say Say" von der Pole Position, musste sich dann aber nur eine Woche später schon wieder dem Culture Club (feat. Boy George und "Karma Chameleon" geschlagen geben.

Hierzulande schaffte "Owner" einen Monat später immerhin Platz 10, was in der Gesamtauswertung für Februar 1984 immerhin für Platz 13 reichte:

3o Jahre ist das schon wieder, pack ich nicht. Kann mich noch gut erinnern wie das "de Neue" war!

Auch Yes ließen sich in der 90125-Besetzung mal bei "ZDF RockPop in Concert" in Dortmund blicken. Das Konzert fand zwar bereits am 24. Juni 1984 statt, wurde aber, soviel ich weiß, erst Anfang August des selben Jahres im Fernsehen ausgestrahlt:

Finde es sehr schade, dass die ganzen Sachen, analog zur "WDR Rockpalast"-Reihe, bisher noch nicht offiziell auf DVD veröffentlicht wurde.

Sorry, aber den Beitrag verstehe ich jetzt nicht so ganz. Jon ist Jon. Findest du ihn hier schlimmer als auf den Videos "Yessongs", "Q.P.R.", "Philadelphia '79", "Union", "Montreux 2003" oder "Tsongas"?
