Anderson/Wakeman
Having begun a collaboration in 2006, Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman's duo returns in October 2010 with an album of new material and Yes covers called The Living Tree (Voiceprint, on their Gonzo label), a UK tour, and then a DVD release thereof. The Living Tree contains 9 new songs: "Living Tree (Parts 1 & 2)", "Morning Star", "House of Freedom", "Anyway and Always" (played live in 2006), "23/24/11", "Forever" (played live in 2006), "Garden" (played live in 2006), "Just One Man" (also appears on Anderson's solo album Survival and Other Stories; presumably in a different version). Multiple songs can be heard online: "Morning Star", "House of Freedom" (possibly an extract only), "Forever" and "The Living Tree" are on Anderson's Facebook page (
http://www.facebook.com/TheJonAnderson). "Forever" is also on Voiceprint's YouTube channel (

There are 9 songs, and what's tremendous is that these are the nine very best songs and pieces of music from a huge choice that we had. It was like going back to early YES days for me as we simply discarded what we couldn't make work instead of trying to find a home for it. Jon is truly back at his lyrical best and the album is full of melody and meaning." Much of the album was recorded by Wakeman and engineer Erik Jordan in Aug, with work to continue through Sep; Wakeman explained the process in his Aug 2010 GORR!:
In case you’re wondering how we are going to record with Jon in California and me being in Norfolk, [...] I will be preparing all the back tracks here and then sending the files to Jon who will be recording the vocals using his mobile system whilst out doing some solo shows in America. The files then get sent back to me for Erik to mix, they then go off to Voiceprint for mastering, and [...] finished product should appear at the first show in Cambridge in October!
Anderson has described recording all his vocal contributions while "on the road". The album is available at dates on the duo's tour, although it was not available at the first couple. In his Sep GORR!, Wakeman said that the album will contain "at least 9 new tracks as yet never recorded and these will include the four that we wrote together for the last Jon and Rick tour 4 years ago." He had also said in the Aug GORR! that the album will also contain "some of the YES stuff that we'll be doing on the tour". Back in his Apr 2010 GORR!, Wakeman said, "On the 9th, Erik Jordan and I will be preparing some more music to send to Jon for lyrics in readiness for the October tour and hopeful pre-tour recording." On 24 Apr on Facebook, Anderson said, "Just wrote 2 great songs with Rick for the tour..."
Anderson and Wakeman have been rehearsing and a 20-date UK tour runs from 9 Oct-15 Nov under the name The Anderson Wakeman Project 360. The Buxton advert refers to Anderson, Wakeman "and their band", but this is inaccurate. The tour will be similar to the one in 2006, a duo: Anderson (vocals, acoustic guitar), Wakeman (grand piano, keys). Whereas Wakeman played grand piano only in 2006, he will be "taking out a couple of high tech keyboards which will bring a new colour to the music" (Sep GORR!). There was an additional "pre-tour" performance on 8 Oct in Addlestone, Surrey, with Anderson and Wakeman joined by 50 members of the Voice in a Million choir (worked with Rick Wakeman, Foreigner); the set was in two halves and included [SPOILERS—highlight to read] "Living Tree", "House of Freedom", "23/24/11", "Garden", "Just One Man" and several Yes pieces, including "South Side of the Sky", "Roundabout" and, with the choir, "Time and a Word", "Your Move", "Owner of a Lonely Heart" and "Soon". The audience was about 350-400. Promo for the tour describes a "show featuring superb classic YES and exclusive first performances of newly jointly composed ANDERSON WAKEMAN songs written especially for this tour". A flyer is available here. Two one hour sets with an intermission between are planned. On his website, Wakeman said of the tour:
In 2006 Jon and I embarked on an acoustically driven two man tour [...] Jon and I always said we would do it again and to that end, would continue to write new songs together, and this we have done.
This October/November tour will be full of music both old and new
In his Aug 2010 GORR!, Wakeman also said, "The concerts will also be filmed for a DVD which will be released in time for Xmas." One report has that it is the Buxton Opera House show that is to be recorded. (Prior plans for a live recording before the tour have been dropped.)
